We are excited to welcome Prof. Dr. Guido Friebel to KD²Lab on June 3rd!

He will present findings from a fascinating randomized controlled trial conducted with a large retail chain. In the study, store managers were simply asked by their CEO to “do what they can” to reduce employee quit rates—a light-touch intervention that led to a 20–25% reduction in turnover, with effects lasting several months and re-emerging after a reminder. Interestingly, while sales remained unaffected, the results point to a trade-off: managers shifted focus toward HR tasks and away from customer service.

Prof. Friebel’s talk will offer valuable insights into how middle managers can drive efficiency and reduce personnel turnover, even in multitasking environments with limited resources.
